How to balance playground time and workshops: a simple weekly plan for kids

By Jinane & Sophanie, founders of Luciole··5 min read

The easiest balance is active play on most days and one or two hands-on workshops a week. The playground keeps children moving; the atelier teaches them to make, build and focus. Here is a simple weekly plan you can adapt for your family in Jounieh and Keserwan.

Why children need both

The World Health Organization recommends that children aged 5 to 17 get at least an hour of moderate to vigorous activity a day, and that younger children move throughout the day. The playground, the seafront and the garden are perfect for that.

But movement is only half of it. Children also need time with their hands busy and their minds focused: drawing, building, cooking, making music. That is what a kids' workshop gives them, and it is much easier to plan once a week than to improvise at home every evening.

A simple weekly plan for school-age kids

DayPlan
MondayPlayground or park after school
TuesdayFree play at home, a little reading
WednesdayKids' workshop (arts, building or cooking)
ThursdayPlayground, bike or scooter
FridaySport or swimming
SaturdayMorning workshop, afternoon outdoors
SundayFamily outing, no plan

Swap days freely. The goal is a rhythm, not a timetable.

A lighter plan for toddlers

  • Short outdoor play every day, even 20 minutes in the morning.
  • One sensory play session a week, with you alongside.
  • Plenty of rest. Toddlers learn as much from a nap as from a class.

Signs your child needs more playground time

  • Restless at bedtime and hard to settle.
  • Climbing the furniture by late afternoon.
  • Grumpy after long days indoors or at school.

Signs your child needs more atelier time

  • Bored quickly and asking for screens.
  • Struggles to sit and finish a small task.
  • Loves to draw, build or help in the kitchen and wants to do more.

Making it work in Jounieh

Use the seafront and outdoor spaces in spring and autumn, when the weather is kind. In summer, go out early and save the middle of the day for an indoor workshop. In winter, when the rain sets in, the atelier becomes the main plan. Our list of rainy-day activities in Jounieh helps on those weeks.

Where Luciole fits

Luciole is not a playground. It is a kids' atelier in Jounieh Souks where children join hands-on workshops in arts and crafts, building, cooking and music, while parents relax in the café a few steps away. Booking the same day each week turns it into part of the routine. Read what children learn in our workshops.

Workshops run Tuesday to Friday from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. The café is open Tuesday to Sunday from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. Closed on Mondays.
